This place, like the others, is absolutely over-the-top. I am in the middle of nowhere—well actually in the south part of Serengeti National Park—and a lovely band (of five percussionists) is playing music while we eat. And five VERY fit, young men with skin like I have never seen and the whitest teeth and handsomest faces imaginable are dancing and doing acrobatics and juggling. There are also three women who taught God rhythm dancing. Victor my management trainee waiter is cut from the same cloth. Not only are the people here extraordinary in their friendliness, they are a strikingly handsome people. (Victore, below.)
Dinner is photographable and perfect in volume—things tend to be in excess at these lodges and tented camps, and whilst I eat, my room is being mosquito bombed. I am going to bed feeling like one of the luckiest guys in the world for this experience. I am super glad I went to Morocco and Egypt, but I will never go back. No choice: compulsory escort back to my room and to the most comfortable bed yet on safari.
Thursday...
The day dawned with a huge blue sky. Breakfast al fresco and only a gigabillion acres of stunning landscape to look at. I can see buffalo, impallas and I am listening to the Beethovens of birdsong. When Ciprian arrived, he said it would rain because the morning was clear. The view is below-click on it to enlarge it.
It is the beginning of the rainy season so the grass is really tall, making it difficult to see animals. But BOY does it make for a beautiful landscape! And I was feeling sort of crummy, yet again, so I asked to com e home at 2:00. Still, a good six-hour day. Tomorrow is a long drive, like yesterday, so I wanted a short day today.
Secretary birds look like they are wearing blue spandex pants.
At the Serengeti information centre, the rock hyrax melted my heart.
Impallas are stunning.
Dik Diks are one of my favorites here.
This could be my favorite photo. This velvet monkey was sitting just outside the door of the lodge when I was coming out to sit and look out over the plain.
I wrote before... They have a lovely blue scrotum that you can almost see here.
He yawned a couple of times and I caught him at it.
Bwana was facing the other way for his afternoon R&R, but he turned and self-photographed himself.
The velvet monkey is adorable, blue scrotum and all. I can just feel his furry coat!
ReplyDeleteLoving my "trip" with you as always.
