Kisima Ngeda, Part 2

A day of relative rest at Kisima Ngeda.

Today began with hot chocolate delivered at 6:00 am with tiny biscuits. What a treaty for this early riser, to sit on my deck sipping delicious hot chocolate and watching the sunrise and listening to birdsong. AND! when I got up to come into the tent, when I returned to the deck, there was the cutest velvet monkey head first in my sugar bowl. I froze and as I watched, he lifte his head out of the bowl and then continued eating using the spoon!!

God bless Mountain Equipment Coop. The pants they sold me dry in 15 minutes, constrict ant the ankle to keep mosquitos out, have sealing pockets and are cool!

The morning was fantastic. I visited the Hadzabi and Datoga tribes of bushmeat. the Hadzabi were particularly amazing because they live completely off the land. The young sleep on the ground outdoors and the elders sleep in rustic huts. I the rainy season they live in caves. They live off the animals they can kill, roots and fruit. They are pid for runs visit with metal arrow heads and marijuana.

The Dagota are metal smithies. Th mill corn and cook their food in the style of the rural people in other rafts of the third world that I have seen. They are paid for our visit by my guides by the sale of arrowheads which the guides will use to pay for other tourist visits to the Hadzabi.

The Hadzabi.

The Dagota.
