- We saw several Nyalas which are rare in this area. All the antelope family members are absolutely stunning.
- We saw a water monitor lizzard that was a meter and a half long!
- My camera is broken. I got sand in it at the penguin beach and it was not working well since but on my second-to-last-day in Elephant Plains is stopped altogether.
- We saw a ground hornbill. It is the size of a turkey and amazing to see.
- Rita, the woman I look after in Vancouver, is in hospital with pneumonia. I am sick with worry because she has COPD and is 90 years old. I am continuing with my trip and it is fully paid for for the next two weeks and non-refundable. Besides there is little I can do, but still, I am travelling sad and scared.
- We remain in the Sheridan in Pretoria where, tonight, we will spend with a friend we met in Cape Town. We are excited to have a local guide with us tonight; driving will be a lot easier.
- All photos in this post are by Steve.
The bar at Elephant plains.
The pool just a few meters from our cabin.
This is the hippo that came to the pond right in front of our lodge.
Bwana was the first to spot him.
Up close.
Chameleon number two.
I'm looking at you. No I'm not. yes I am.
I cannot get enough of her. We have seen her four times.
We tracked this guy for two hours and found him. Our trackers are amazingly talented.
I've seen zillions of giraffes. but they continue to amaze. They only sleep for 15 minutes at a time and have to sleep with their head raised or they pass out. Be happy you are not a giraffe. They sleep only an hour a day.
